City of Austin Public Art Collection
A city program called Art In Public Places was established in 1985 to award funding for public artworks. After 30 years, the city's collection includes over 180 pieces of permanent and temporary public art valued at more than $75,000. In 2002, Austin City Council removed the $200,000 spending cap from the program and doubled the percentage of capital improvement funding given to art projects from 1% to 2%.
